MOROCCO

Morocco is one of the great sensory destinations on Earth. Every day feels like a bucket list. The Fez medina is a labyrinth that even locals can themselves get lost in. The High Atlas Mountains rise to 4,000 meters dotted with villages where calls to prayer still echo off the kasbahs. The Sahara at sunset does something to even the most jaded traveler. And underneath all of it sits a thousand years of Berber, Arab, Andalusian, Jewish, and French history layered into the same neighborhoods, the same recipes, the same architectural details. Morocco is for the traveler who wants their senses tested and their sense of awe expanded.

Where You'll Stay

We spend a lot of time obsessing over the perfect accommodations. Our favorites tend to be smaller, boutique properties with a unique sense of style and fantastic service.

Here are just a few of our favorites...

Three of Our Favorite Spots

Fez

Fez

01

In Fez the UNESCO-recognized medina hasn't changed since the 9th century, and that's precisely what makes it so enchanting. Tanneries still dye leather in the same stone vats, the ageless narrow lanes dead-end in the same unexpected courtyards, and getting lost in the souks is less a risk than an inevitability. Go with someone who knows where the good things are hiding, because they are hiding, and it's worth it.

HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

02

The rugged High Atlas region unfolds with a landscape of terraced villages, mule tracks, and peaks that top four thousand meters, and the city you’ve left behind feels like a mirage. The hiking can be serious or casual, the Berber encounters are always special, and the handful of lodges tucked in the valleys deliver considerable style.

SAHARA DESERT

SAHARA DESERT

03

The dunes are more expansive than you pictured, the silence is deeper than you're used to, and the stars, far from any light source, are simply incomprehensible. Arrive at your tented camp in the Sahara as the light turns golden, eat dinner by candlelight, get spiritually lost in gnawa songs over a crackling campfire, and wake up before sunrise, because you'll regret it if you don't.

“It was indeed a wonderful trip and I must say because Morocco has so much more to offer than I had thought and it is in fact beautiful in many ways. As usual the organization was perfect, I don’t know how you all never get it wrong. One of the things I liked a lot about this trip was the time driving around the country. I think I saw things most people perhaps don’t see because we did spend a lot of time travelling and the countryside is amazing. I certainly came back with a different view of what Morocco is. Thank you for putting together such a memorable trip and for having the expertise to find such good people to carry it out.”

The Medina, the Mountains, and the Dunes: Morocco End to End

Day 1: On arrival in Casablanca, you’ll meet your dedicated driver-guide and explore the impressive Hassan II Mosque before continuing onward to Rabat for the night.

Day 2: This morning explore Rabat’s calm medina before hitting the road bound for Fez, stopping along the way to explore Meknes — one of Morocco’s lesser-visited Imperial Cities — and Volubilis, home to impressive Roman ruins. Settle into your riad in a quiet nook of the Fez medina.

Day 3: Enjoy a full day to explore Fez, the historic center of arts and sciences in Morocco. Your local insider guide will help you navigate the ancient labyrinthine streets and alleyways, including highlights such as the Jewish Quarter, a traditional tannery and other craft souks.

Day 4: Begin the long journey across the country toward the remote Sahara, taking in some lesser visited parts of the country along the way. En route you will stop to stretch your legs with a stroll through the cedar forests of Ifrane, and later visit the Ziz Valley, the largest date producer in Morocco, where you will enjoy a home-cooked meal with a local family. Settle into the oasis town of Erfoud for the night.

Day 5: Today you will head south to Merzouga, the gateway into the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert. Continue by 4 x 4 or camelback into the dunes, arriving at your luxurious desert camp in time to watch the sunset. After dinner, enjoy fireside traditional music under a star-filled sky.

Day 6: Rise with the sun before bidding farewell to the Sahara and heading to your next destination, Tinjedad, to visit the old city and the small-yet-impressive Berber History Museum. Continue to Skoura, a lush oasis town in the Valley of the Kasbahs, where you’ll settle into a charming riad.
